This textile work reinterprets a traditional pastoral scene on a tapestry — two horses galloping through water beneath an open sky — through the lens of Russian avant-garde aesthetics. The classical, almost nostalgic landscape becomes a foundation for a bold contemporary gesture.
The intervention recalls the radical visual language of early 20th-century Russian avant-garde movements such as Suprematism and Constructivism, where simplified forms, flat color fields, and symbolic dynamism disrupted conventional representation. The red figure acts as a graphic sign cutting through the romantic naturalism of the background and creating tension between tradition and revolution, craft and ideology.
Executed entirely in hand embroidery, the piece emphasizes tactility, labor, and material presence. The meticulous stitching contrasts with the conceptual sharpness of the composition, uniting heritage textile techniques with avant-garde spirit in an intimate, statement-scale format.
